No, I don't think that it's dead, but I can see why you might think so. I don't know what city you live in. I live in San Francisco and that kind of culture ceased to exist here long ago. But it does still exist in most of the country.
The total cleaving between the lifestyles of "urban elites" and "middle America" is a phenomenon that has developed over the last fifty years. There really are two Americas these days. If this is something that you're interested in I'd recommend a great book called Coming Apart by Charles Murray that discusses some of the reasons for why this might have happened.

Shit, most of America is made up of small towns and farmland. You could easily find a KoTH style town somewhere if you looked.
