Actually the standards of attractivity are fairly universal (things like waist-hip ratio, youthful appearence, women preferring taller men, etc). Fringe practices like blacking teeth in Japan in the past are statistical abberations. Extreme socioeconomic conditions produce abberant beauty ideals like preferrence for obesity like on some island cultures(i.e. obesity is normally harmful but in extremely poor cultures it's still preferrably to the alternative), but those things are at the extreme edges of the range of behavioral expression and result of extreme environments.
