I had such severe social anxiety when I was a teenager that I taught myself ASL and pretended to be deaf/mute when going to public places.

Thanks I guess. It didn't solve my social anxiety whatsoever, it just prolonged the inevitable therapy I had to take. I mean, it is a good skill to have and it's way easier than learning an entirely new language. Probably more difficult for people who aren't visual learners but I am a visual learner so it was EZmode. I also met a really cool hard of hearing dude at college thanks to it.
