Who else identifies with stuff that they actually enjoy?
For example, I was just browsing the Discord website because they said they were hiring, so I wanted to see what working for a "geek" company would be like. Everything they presented was full of vidya culture, memes, tech-words, etc., and I couldn't help but feel drawn to it.
The thing is - I don't actually care about these things, and on the odd occasion I have attended something related to gaming or anime or whatever, I've always left feeling hollow. It's like, I WANT to be into these things, but only on the most superficial level, and the instant I try to mold my life on them I instantly begin thinking "this is a joke."
Why the fuck does this happen? Why do I want to keep up to date with anime, gaming, memes, etc. when I think they're mostly pointless and I'd much rather do more creative shit? Am I alone in living like this? What the hell do I do about it?

It does get stressful knowing that things advance in secret, and that you may not live to see your work at its full potential. Nobody may care about or understanding what you are doing, either. Someone who chooses to live like this does it because they feel some sort of pain from the mismatch between their imagination and reality. Creation allows you to bargain with the universe to get what you want.

You're looking at this shit in terms of black and white. Take a step back and look at this shit from a healthy perspective. You have interests, some of them are more "productive" (that's always up to debate) some of them less. Wanting to 'mold your life around' something you like is a perfectionistic idea that wouldn't do you any good. Everything gets boring after a while. EVERYTHING. Some people get hung up on shit more than others, that does not mean that YOU have to as well. Accept the fact that your interests are dynamic an enjoy it. There is literally nothing wrong with it unless you expect yourself to behave in a way that's contradictory to the kind of person that you are.
