Also there's people (due to asimmetric or whatever facial features) that look absolutely trashy in pics but only slightly ugly irl, such as myself.

Well as far as the mirror goes I know for a fact you tend to be biased and so you unconsciously or consciously tend to focus more on good qualities/details versus how you ACTUALLY look.
So it's not realiable at all.
As far as pictures go... they SHOULD be more objective but as I said human perception (esp. visual) is biased too, and something like an asymmetric face(or a puffy one or some other noticeable defect) is gonna look terrible in pics but possibly good irl/in situations etc.

Yes I'm in the same boat btw. I know I CAN look decent in pics because for instance in vids I already look slightly better and some angles from pics taken by others I don't look horrible.

Like another anon said, you want natural light. I think the stuff about it going through something white is so it looks softer.
Holding the phone farther away helps, otherwise you'll look like you have a huge nose. Keep the camera slightly above eye level. It makes your face look narrower. Having the camera lower has the opposite effect.

overhead lighting or bright direct lighting. either emphasize the outward contour of the nose and brow or basically remove any contour if the light is directly on your face. I'm a 3/10 at best and these lighting tricks allowed me to appear leaner and more masculine bumping me up to 5/10 when in reality im just a jewish babyface lmao
