OK, fucking idiot, I live in NC on 100 acres which was purchased at 4k/acre in a country town that's kinda in the boonies but 30 minutes from the city of Raleigh. The land is very fertile, I have a 2000 sqft garden that uses no pesticides, no fertilizer, just completely natural food. I have 2 ponds and a river, horses, goats, chickens and ducks. and there's 300 acres next to me going up for sale/lease next spring. 5k/acre is on the high end land cost and you can be VERY productive on a 10 acre lot, so there isn't even a ton of capital involved in starting this type of operation.
