To understand why there's a perceived exceptionalism when it comes to identity, all it takes is basic, surface level knowledge about history of social justice in US. It is a social contruct. People were not separeted long enough to have major differences in their biology, hence why they can interbreed freely and without any genetic fuck ups. Also, the use of separation by races is dicouraged due to it's uselessness and possible harmful social impact when mongoloids like you find out that people have different labels and baselessly assume some fundamental difference. It's useless because race tells nothing about a given group of people (unlike animals, so when you say a "snow leopard" you imply all the available information related to snow leopards, because they are grouped specifically for that purpose and snow leopards don't have much variation) while something like a culture or country has a much better set of info to do it.
