There's an Ethiopian village that dates this tradition going back a few generations. They are allowed within the gates of the village and they hand feed them, there's also a butcher that gives them their bones. They have a mutual respect for each other and this tradition is carried down through each generation for both species. Well the hyenas are aware of this tradition and they usually have to fight other packs of hyenas for the right to the entrance.
