Ok this is interesting. Kind of helps me understand my own situation better. From a hedonistic standpoint sex certainly isn't the pinnacle, so it's not simply a pleasure-seeking desire. I want sex because I place part of my self-worth into attaining the same things that any regular dumbo can. Being a virgin feels like failing to graduate high school, or failing to get your driver's license after trying, or failing to be able to cook a decent meal etc. It just feels like an unnecessary failure that i'm hanging over my own head and I have to fix it somehow. The only other way would be to zen-mode it and not set the same expectations on myself, but that wouldn't fix how I'm seen by other people, just how I see myself. Would that be any better than just getting laid? I don't know.

An evocative article. Especially for a repulsive thing like myself, one of those grotesque things that will be in this man's position.
