Wouldn't you be like koichi? Maybe it's my head canon but wasnt he going to die until josuke "fixed" him. Even when he survived he wasn't strong enough to control his stand perfectly like how echoes always talked back when everyone else's stands were basically puppets. You would probably also need to "grow" to actually make your stand powerful enough to do anything.

you get a stand if you survive the wound
you die if you don't have the potential for a stand and the wound is fatal
the only instances where the wound didnt heal afterwards was with stray cat and the janken kid who ended up with semihealed holes in their bodies
however koichi was healed by josuke and thus got a stand even though he had zero fighting spirit
his stand was fucking useless and undeveloped at the time, similar to koichi himself
i think koichi was going to die if josuke didnt heal him, he probably shouldnt have gotten a stand if josuke wasnt there to save him

as an added note, star platinum does seem to have some sort of personality, at least in part 3.
in its first appearance, jotaro described it as violent, implying that it was acting against jotaro not wanting to hurt anyone. it also saved him from the bullet jotaro shot himself with.

some stands have personalities of their own, others do not. but most stands are written as reflections of their owner's souls, jotaro's stand reflects the fact that jotaro doesnt express much emotion and just bottles that shit up into anger, anger that's released through violence.
star platinum began following jotaro's will after they left the prison and stopped attacking people with jotaro's commands.

koichi's act 3 probably spoke just because araki wanted people to see what koichi was "really" thinking about that nurse
