did reddit and facebook kill them? I don't know anybody who posts on forums. i regularly posted to probably 10 in 2005
it seems like people have lost interest in private, small communities
a long with youtube and twitter, most probably.

Forums that exist now tend to be on fairly niche topics and have existed for a while. Any forum that wasn't niche enough probably got swallowed by facebook, and making a new forum is silly since you'll get more exposure and popularity by making a new subreddit.
Forums just aren't as good for conversation

Odd because the layout in reddit is shit, not to mention tweets.

I prefer it to reddit, although reddit does have some good parts to its conversation structure
i miss forums dearly, people had flair and reputations and it was small communities so it was much better conversation
i hate reddit 'discussions' on any big subreddit

even in the smaller subreddits, nobody really knows each other. in forums, each user had personality. on reddit, they usually worship one or two users who manage to achieve something relevant to the board.
