Does anyone else here have really violent dreams but not feel violent in every day life? I've been having violent dreams every night since I was 18 probably. Shit like:
>Last night I dreamed I murdered a beagle puppy in my house. I hid it and the police came, I got arrested and went to court, got off because they couldn't find the puppy, went home and tore it up with my hands and flushed it down my toilet
>Shooting people (in combat or just civilians in general)
>Witnessing graphic violence. A few people were in a low-rider and an IED went off and they got turned into hamburger meat/parts
>Raping people (men and women) and murdering them
I don't get what's up with my subconscious. I play some violent video games like Rainbow Six Siege but mostly it's strategy games like Total War
most dream imagery is symbolic, your brain processing your world in a controlled environment - so i'd reckon violent incidents in your subconscious are your way of trying to cope with something disturbing you IRL
have you moved house recently, or had some other life-altering change in the last few months?

sorry, just saw that you said you've been dealing with this since you were 18
is that when you moved out from home and went to college or something?

I OD'd last October (it was just an opiate binge, I've been clean since then) but the dreams have been going on for at least 5 years now. I don't know about symbolism, but it's almost like it's the worst part of me coming out (I think Freud called it the Id)
Are some people just born violent? I was in the state militia for a few years where I learned how to fight/kill etc and I think I'd hold up in combat pretty well. I would never be violent to innocent people or animals though

It's cool. And nope, I've been living in the same home since childhood. I went to college, graduated in May, and am now studying for my CPA (Certified Public Accounting cert)

my apologies, i was a little vague when i talked about the symbolism of dreams
i only mean that our mind uses objects that represent something deeper, like if your first kiss was under an apple tree, then apples might represent romantic interest and if you were dreaming of someone you liked, they might be eating an apple
it's usually something really simple like that, and more violent imagery such as dismembering a dog could just be your mind's way of showing concern that you could hurt something you care about
i suppose it all depends on how you feel about beagles
same goes for people who ride around in lowriders - if you think those kinds of cars are cool, then you probably want to hang out with folk like that IRL
but some part of your brain is worried that you can't maintain relationships and are likely to destroy them
