I normally use 4chan for discussion, and I have never made a reddit account. i value my "anonymity" and ability to shitpost without getting downvoted a lot.

The way threads are formatted with the vote system and replies makes it unreadable for me.

I hate that place.

I once did support for a clothing shop, supporting the design and production computers as well as the on-site servers for their website. The clothing brand is a pretty big one.

One of the owners gets a drug problem and fucks things up so bad he gets pushed out of the business and his personal shop, the one I'm supporting, gets shut down.

Six weeks later the guy calls me up mad saying things won't start and I must have done something wrong last time I was there and I should pay for it all so whatever, I'll go in and take a look at it just to be professional. Who knows, maybe I did forget to do something during my last visit to the site.

Show up. He's pissed. I take a look at the server rack. Sure enough, nothing boots. Check the power with something else, works fine. Take off the top one and open it up and someone had spilled a chocolate shake somewhere in the rack.

I showed him the copious amount of what must have been an In-n-Out shake, since he used to leave those on any surface, inside the server. Last time I saw the guy he was homeless.

but a big difference with reddit it's how "politically correct" it can be. nowadays in 4chan in the hobby boards "like /v/, /mu/, /vr/, /a/" people can call each other "dumb nigger" without any repercussion, while in reddit, you probably can't get away with that. it's funny too, i remember getting banned for racial slurs in /v/ back in the day, but the mods probably gave up since in 4chan it's common to insult each other with racial slurs.

I've come and gone through that dumb website 3 or 4 times already now.

That said, it is actually better than a lot of generals on this site when it comes to specific interests.

Pick a random video game and there may or may not be a general for it on /vg/. If there is one, it's filled with tripfags and shitposts.

With reddit at the very least you have an entire board dedicated to it, and you can easily search for old posts and stuff rather than trying to dig through warosu or moe archives that often get kill and the pictures and posts are gone forever.

What's really great too is that since people have usernames and accounts you can spot who is an underage troll or complete autist by their post history.

That said, I haven't signed up for another account yet and doubt I will in a very very long time. The upvoting culture does more harm than good.

I don't go there regularly on my own. If I'm doing research or looking up answers to something very specific and Reddit comes up in the search results, I'll check it out then.

I regularly browse and even have two accounts (one normal, one porn). You have to think of it as purely a content based site. Don't upvote, don't comment, don't even think about the posts. Just mindlessly view the images and read the articles to pass time.
