Normie here.

Traveled to 40 countries since 2013. Currently in Mexico. Going to go outside and buy some street food once the rain lets up. Went out to a bar last night and had sex with a local woman I've banged several times already.

At home I entertain myself by riding around on my motorcycle and going on solo camping trips, when the weather permits. I box, take dance lessons (salsa and bachata), and am thinking about getting back into wresting.

Sometimes I go to hookah or bars with a handful of friends, although most of my close buddies have moved overseas for the Peace Corps or out-of-state for medical school.

I'm traveling until January and have spent some time writing short stories. I write content for a law firm and several small businesses and earn between $1500 and $2500 per month, but have never tried writing for writing's sake.

I bought a 2014 Royal Enfield Classic 500, which cost about $5,000 new.

I absolutely wouldn't recommend getting one.

I learned how to ride when I was in India several years ago. The Royal Enfield Bullet was my first ride in Delhi, and I bought one in the United States out of nostalgia. Total fucking mistake - it's not suited for modern roads and speed limits.

Started riding in winter of 2015.

Planning to buy a DL650 (Suzuki V-Strom 650) to do a Pan-America trip after I graduate.

Would recommend a Honda CBR250 or 500 or a Ninja with similar power.

Don't really know, I'm not into sportsbikes tbqh. Ideally, you should get something used for $1-$3k that you won't feel too bad about dropping. I somehow managed to never fall, but it's pretty common for beginners.

How's the build quality? Most Indian bikes are absolute shite. They break like crazy, over and over again. Really stupid shit too like the fuses repeatedly failing, the speedometer quitting, the gear shift getting fucked up with just a few weeks of normal use, the list goes on.

Most of the bike-related research I've done has been to fulfill my own needs. I'm getting a V-Strom 650 because it has a reputation for reliability, can handle long-distance touring, and has some off-road capabilities.

The KLR 650 is also very popular and is slightly less expensive than the DL650.

Pretty atrocious.

I only have 5,000 miles on it. Since purchase, I've had the heat guard fall off twice. Mirror snapped away in my hand while riding at 50mph due to vibrations, and there's a small leak in the gas tank. Speedometer gets wobbly on the highway, vibrations are noticeable at 65 mph+, and I had the stock headlamp fail after less than 1,000 miles.

It's a fun bike to ride and was great to learn on, but I'm definitely done with it.

Anyway, think the rain might stop soon, so I'm probably going to wander off. Have to take an 8+ hour bus to Guadalajara tomorrow.

My bike gets a ridiculous amount of attention, but I'm sick of it to the point where I'd much prefer a generic and reliable Japanese Motosuzukoshawashibasabusa.

I've taken a fair amount of time off from university to travel, which is why I'm graduating late.

Normally I travel for at least a few months at a time.

That aside, I'm not particularly picky about where I go. The first country I visited in Latin America was Colombia, and I traveled there just because the flight was the cheapest international fare I could find. Wound up living it.

Hitchhiked across Europe in 2014 and went to about 10 countries on my first trip in 2013 (spent most of my time between India and Turkey, though, with about a week each in Iraq, Greece, Georgia, the UAE, etc).

Contiki isn't really something I'd be interested in, so I can't comment. I prefer independent travel, but some folks don't. You do you.

Seconding the KLR. They're simple, cheap, and un-fucking-killable. They've been in production for well over 20 years with virtually no changes aside from working out various kinks and adding fuel injection at some point. I'd recommend getting the newest model you can afford but you really can't go wrong no matter what you buy unless it's been obviously abused.
