What does it really mean to be "a good person", /r9k/ ?
Isn't the idea of that concept superficial considering each individual see a different version of yourself or are there legitimate and genuine cases of "good human beings" that no one can refute and disprove as bad ?

Their virtues. Patience, honesty, conscientiousness, intelligence, justice, kindness, discipline. Any combination really, Religion helps but the Aristotlean account is more my style. Just live for yourself and benefit everyone else around you as best you can, you can always choose who you want to be, make a right choice.

The problem is that most of these virtues are all up to subjectiveness when applied, and will be written off as being a "dickhead" (to cite one example in many) in some's minds.
In the case of Honesty: What is it really worth when your friends ask your opinion not for the truth, but for a compliment to make them feel good about themselves, regardless of what you really think ?
Brutal honesty is labeled as being an asshole while diplomacy is hailed as the right thing to do despite being all lies.
Who is the good person in this case ?
