Wear appropriate clothing
Take proper rest days
Be aware that nobody, absolutely nobody, cares if you fuck up at the gym, if anything they'll try to help
Don't be ashamed of doing low weights, we all start that way
Eat protein and stop drinking sugary drinks
Get a spotter friend if you can, but most gyms have trainer programs

If you really wanna avoid crowds, go in the morning, people flood in after they get off work

i will never lift again :^)

Man I'm six months in and I don't know if I could even do a pullup. Pullups are hard as shit. Chinups I can do, but only a couple.
Believe me, the average dude who doesn't hit the gym can't do a pullup, don't feel inferior. Don't skip leg days though, the meme exists for a reason.

Personally I'm right where I wanted to be at this point in lifting. I'm at 135 3x5 on almost all my lifts. I don't particularly care about losing weight, I wanna go full Banemode honestly.

Just started too, went maybe 10 times so far. Does your gym offer having a trainer create a training plan for you? If so, go for that even if it costs extra, it's super helpful. And don't worry about being embarrassed, people really don't care very much and don't really look at you much, when I go I usually just say hi to whoever is at the reception and that's all the communication I do in that session.

You can still be slim and petite and lift weights. You're the same as women who say they only do cardio because they don't want to "get big," it's pseudoscience. You only get as big as you lift.

I'd love to GET /fit/, I should be able to maintain enough motivation to get there.
It's STAYING /fit/ that takes too much effort for me to motivate me.

If either a bout of laziness, down time due to chronic illness, or the occasional loss of all motivation for productive actions hits and stays for a few weeks, I'll basically lose enough of my gains to just quit trying to maintain it altogether.

I have the luck of being at 7%BF even with my fairly sedentary lifestyle, have enough strength to work (hauling boxes few hours a day) without much effort, and don't really enjoy the act of working out. That's why I'm not getting /fit/ right now.

Maybe one day; it would be pretty nice to get a more attractive physique.
