Everything is technically a social construct, that is to say a consensus, arguably the material has more foundation than the immaterial though. But to say gender is a social construct is fairly meaningless, as it a construct and it is defined. Given that it is artificial is in no way making it any more wrong than any other viewpoint such as gender on a spectrum as that is equally as artificial.

Basically someones definition of gender can't be wrong as it is immaterial, if a tranny calls themself a girl its as equally valid as someone calling them a man. Something like biological sex is based in the material though and although not exact, to say material A1 is more alike to material A2 than material B3 is correct, in simple words natural women are more alike than transgender women, so to say there is a difference is more valid.
