MOBA is the genre that's for people who are too shit to git gud at any other type of multiplayer game. Lack the reflexes for FPSs? Too much of a brainlet for RTS? Lack the patience to learn a fighting game? How about you just play a MOBA, where all you have to do is memorize a few character and item stats, and one (1) entire map and then haphazardly click on other players for a boring as fuck 30 minute+ match?

Makes me thankful that I reached 4k quite some time ago and didnt feel need to keep playing. MOBAs are hell of a drug. You become addicted really fast, especially if there is nothing going on in your life. Anyway I remember being fucked up mentally back when I still played dota and lol

Between DotA 1 and 2 I have around 1000 games as Meepo. Climbed to 3750 with secondaries of clockwork and pudge.

Pretty nice game. People would give me skins for free (but they do that in league too so I guess people playing mobas are just super generous).

I should get back into dota... but the time commitment is too harsh. I either win 2 lanes and end at 20, or lose at 50+

Id say those changes were aimed at encouraging early teamfights. Especially at higher mmr you get people who actually slaughter for the rune. Its a lot more entertaining when streaming or doing anything other than just slowly walking to lane.

You do NOT want the game to discourage teamfights (league) or it becomes hella boring.

Good DotA teamfights should end with 12 people dead (diebacks)

Nearly 2k hours played but I can't play it anymore after not playing since Oracle release. Everything is so different and i can't be arsed to learn it all so i just play HotS now.

rts does not require intelligence, it's just months of practice and drilling mechanics until you can execute your builds perfectly while maintaining information and having good control over your units.
It's not about outsmarting the other player, but simply seeing what they need to do to win and removing that option. This by the way is the same way dota and fighting games work.
Basically RTS are fighting games with a much higher mechanical skill floor. Don't let anyone tell you that clicking around a map somehow involves strategy, at every level except the top pro level it's mechanics.
