Flip Flappers is incredibly cute, lively, and fun! The art is also super colorful and appealing.

I am not sure how engaging you will find the story, but it is definitely opposite to "depressed and empty" feelings.

Yeah, there is a lot of lesbian vibes. I haven't finished watching all of it yet, but did encounter that and found it somewhat offputting.

Code Geass got me majorly invested, and it's pretty long. Other good options are Eureka Seven (Anemone best girl), Haibane Renmei, and Hellsing Ultimate. If you don't like at least one of those then you're a shit taste faggot.

I've seen FLCL anyway. Art style is nice enough but it doesn't have any of the surreal / psychedelic atmosphere as much. At least not in the rainbow-vomit alice in wonderland way. Same for kirra ra kirr and ttgl. They do not have the same mood/aesthetic. I have nto found anything else with the Flip Flappers style. Madoka has some elements of it, but not fully, and it is more dark/horror than innocent wonderland.
