"Getting a job is simple, Champ. You just need to take the first step and show them your 'can-do' attitude, champ. All it takes is showing up, speaking with the manager, giving him a firm handshake, and telling him you want the job."

Dubs confirm: All it takes is showing up, speaking with a manager, and giving him a firm handshake.
My new job is really messing with me. Hakf the staff do really aggressive vice grip handshakes. Im not sure if I should escalate my grip. Usually, i give a solid, firm handshake. But these days its like they respond by physically squeezing mine. Is this a nornal handshake or are they doing some internalized petty mind game shit
>got hired
>go in on first day
>meeting co-workers
>gave one of them a semi-firm handshake
>she reported me to the boss and I got fired

"Son, you could either sit there and make excuses or you could pull yourself up by your bootstraps and take the initiative. Now, I didn't raise a quitter. You go back in there, speak with the manager, look him in the eye, and give him a firm handshake."

"Being idle has cost you your handshake strength; laziness has defeated you, Champ."
Thank you for the good advice, dad. I just went in there, looked the manager straight in the eyes and shook his hand. Now I've got a job with a six figure salary. See anon, just do what dad told you and you'll be as successful as your older brother.
"It doesn't matter what the interview questions are. What matters in your handshake."

Have you tried firmly shaking your bosses hand and looking him in the eyes?

"Good job, Champ. See, anon, all it takes is persistence and a firm handshake."

Wagie here, I just submitted another job application.
Here is my genericized resume. I have been hired for 7 jobs with this. Employers like concise, easy to digest documentation. Make it easy to find what they want, and they're more likely to view your resume with satisfaction. You don't need to doll it up as long as the formatting makes it easy to understand.
Also, write a cover letter, regardless of whether it is optional. It should include:
>Why I think I am a good fit for the position
>Background
>Relevant experience and knowledge, especially stuff that doesn't really fit on a resume
Cover letters are very important in competitive positions. Your odds of getting an interview hinge almost entirely on your cover letter and resume.

"I'm sorry, but this won't cut it. A resume is only one part of applying for a job. Your handshake was weak and you made no eye contact. Someone like you isn't needed in my company."
