I'd be pretty happy if I had money. I'd be free to pursue my hobbies and not worry about rent.

Money can't buy happiness but it definitely can make happiness easier to reach while also wiping out worries about needs and wants, affording you better food for better meals to look forward to, and affording you increased comfort. If you're going to be miserable you'd rather do it in a nice home with a well stocked fridge and any entertainment you want easily affordable rather than be miserable in a shitty small house, shitty food, and not enough money to get new entertainment, worried if you'll be able to afford all your bills when they come around.

Wrong. The study you mention says it doesn't give you additional day to day (short term) happiness, but it does increase long term happiness.

Studies suggest that once you have enough money to no longer have financial stress, money doesn't make you happy. So it can, in the sense of not having to deal with financial stress.

But there's a limit, and that limit is pretty low. It's different depending on how expensive the area you live is, and if you have kids or not, other expenses. So no, being rich or having an "excess" of wealth won't make you any happier.

Imo, the reason for this is the same reason why when you're in a plane going 300 mph steadily, it feels the same as when you're standing still. People keep chasing this dream of being rich, only to find that they're the same person with the same insecurities and everything.
You can try and go as fast as possible but you're gonna hit your top speed, and from there, you only can slow down.

Inversely, studies have also found that people suffering a great loss, ie; losing a leg or becoming disabled, are more sad but only for a short term, and after some time are just as happy as they were before the incident.
