Because you are unattractive, have no confidence, and/or are creepy, in increasing order of importance. Confidence, because even if you are an ugly short fatso, if you are confident roasties subconsciously decide that your confidence comes from being rich. Creepy, because no amount of confidence, looks, or money will be able to counteract the bad feelings girls get when they sense something inhuman about you (this was Eliot's issue).
