How did this piece of crap get so popular?

From what I can tell it's similar to other popular games (DayZ, arma, h1z1) but doesn't control and play like complete ass

doesn't look that bad from the streams I've watched. I really love day-z/battle royale type games so maybe that's why. Only if day-z wasn't so shitty and waiting for a patch for that game would be like waiting for half life 3.

While it's not the best game ever made, it's definitely the best game of its kind. This genre also happens to be extremely popular nowadays.

this genre seems pretty nasty, just like the dota genre

abuses the "skill" addiction of online FPS games and the random weapon spawn location type of skinner box that's been getting popular with the roguelike trend

online games are getting fucking disgusting, you're probably worse off playing them than abusing heroin these days
