I used to think that the car blinker was sentient and had knowledge of the route the driver was taking. By "sentient" I mean kid-me perceived it as something which could now be best described as advanced AI tech.

At age 4 I used to believe that mail traveled through subterranean pneumatic tubes to reach its destination. When I was 5, I saw a stranger emptying mailboxes in my building and later that day I asked my mom what he was doing and she told me that he takes the mail out of the boxes and delivers it to its destination.

i used to believe that cars were automated; the adult in the front seat was just there to program the car where to go, and that cars were actually somewhat sentient

i would talk to the car while i was inside and get sad when it didn't reply

also got almost autistically attached to vehicles and would sit in my driveway talking to our truck even if it didn't reply

this also led to me playing chicken with cars in the road, i thought i was playing games with the actual -cars- and that they wouldn't hit me

turns out i probably just pissed off hundreds of adult drivers with childhood autism
