Not at all, Souls games were never really about the difficulty, not until people picked up on the "le Dark Souls is so hard" shit and then the games started to change to reflect that. If you look at Demon's Souls, and then Dark Souls (excluding PtD edition), they were just about Form creating a world they wanted and doing things with their games people hadn't really experimented with before, they weren't focused on being hard, but they did end up providing challenge to players. Of course memes spiralled out of control and Prepare to Die edition of DaS was released, showing the way the series was going to go, and just for the record, I don't think that Artorias of the Abyss was the start of this, but it merely was expanding on the lore, the reason for the bundle being called that was because for this marketing push on marketing the game as some super hard thing.

DaS2 did definitely start to push the difficulty as a selling point, but I feel like in a way Bloodborne was a step in the right direction, I felt like it was the easiest of the Souls games (unless you include going deep down into the depths of the chalice dungeons), there was a focus on the world, which felt great to me, DaS3 sadly was back to difficulty as a selling point, with the bosses being probably some of the worst in the series, the same "multi phase boss gets more angry" stuff over and over.

IMO that's exactly the attraction. Loses actually matter. No other game gives me 'the shakes' -
the adrenaline rush from getting into a PvP scenario - because in other games you lose nothing when you die. Of course, you can just fly cheap ships to mitigate that economic loss and you can avoid getting ganked reasonably easily by being smart, if you want to avoid it

The combat is excellent I think, the best part of EVE. EVE is certainly no dogfighting simulator, I'd call it a real time strategy if anything. You can spend loads of time theorising about fights, which is good if you like that sort of thing.

I understand that feeling, I'm the same in that I only do things solo, but I don't shit on people who just want to enjoy themselves without that challenge, I don't think there is any one true way to play souls games, just go in and enjoy yourself. Saying that I do think looking up guides etc on your first playthrough is wrong purely because the game always gives you plenty of options to enable you to be able to help yourself, summons/messages etc.

Still need to do some of the DaS2 and DaS3 DLC though, I'm just lazy and playing BB loads has fucked my ability to play Dark Souls games since I'm used to 20 years of invincibility frames.

My brother much preferred Bloodborne and I know a lot of people do. Somehow it never quite clicked for me though. For me, BB is by far the easiest of the Souls games, it can be a bit harder if you've played souls games before and have to rework your playstyle but if you just jump into it, it can be very forgiving, again all just in my opinion. There are obviously absolute dicks of bosses in the depths of the chalice dungeons but usually people wont see them. My ratings for the souls games go as follows:

DaS1 > BB = DeS > DaS3 > DaS2

I'm not able to fully judge yet since I'm missing out on 2 and 3's DLCs but DaS1 and BB's DLC are god tier in terms of what I would want and expect from a DLC package, pure golden content, it's a bit of a shame to hear that about 3's DLC though, and I'm just going to go out on a limb here and guess the bosses in the DLC act the same as they do in the main game, multi phase bosses who just get angrier as the phases transition?

I think the DS2 DLC might actually change your rank order. They are the best areas of the game. Better designed, more congruent and with - mostly - better bosses. Some real classics in there actually. For example a weeb boss who, if you can beat him without taking a hit, commits sudoku a tough challenge but doable. Also the largest STR weapon in the series IIRC. It also has some of the most fun weapons in the series, albeit not all of them entirely practical.

Jebus Christ lad, you are missing out on the best From DLC in my opinion, The Old Hunters is fantastic, every boss is a banger of a fight. My personal favourite is the first boss you encounter in the DLC though, also Christ, the way they introduce The Moonlight Greatsword in the DLC is 10/10, I want to just sperg out and tell you a bunch of stuff about the DLC but it would honestly spoil the fun of getting to experience it yourself.

But goodness, you were definitely playing on hard mode using the threaded cane, that is tricky to use for people new to the game, you can get good parry damage off of it but otherwise it's not going to be much damage. I don't know if it would help but maybe molotovs when she heals could give you a better damage output, or fire paper on your cane? Then parries for when she's angery and coming at you.

Dark Souls 2: Scholars of the First Sin is being sold for 9 pounds right now on Steam and it has made the game a bit more enjoyable for me, but there are still annoying parts to it, the guy in this thread hasn't been the first guy to really praise the DLC loads in it and it could be a big factor is making me like it more.
