It's not like they're forcing you to do work in groups where you are forced to sit on your own due to the fact that you lack friends, resulting in you doing your work in silence as the rest of the class talks and socializes, maybe even arranges parties to which you will never attend.

If you can get your diplome without going, why? What can they do if you don't go? Nothing. So I just wouldn't go.

Having friends is for losers. People without friends learn to be independent and to solve problems on their own. People with friends always rely on other helping them out and are completely lost on their own. You might think that having friends allows you to solve problems more efficient, but this benefit is far outweighed by the constant need for socializing needed to keep the friends around.
