How should I take tamsulosin?

Follow all directions on your prescription label. Your doctor may occasionally change your dose to make sure you get the best results. Do not take this medicine in larger or smaller amounts or for longer than recommended.

Tamsulosin is usually taken once a day, approximately 30 minutes after a meal. Try to take this medication at the same time each day.

Do not crush, chew, or open a capsule. Swallow the capsule whole.

Tamsulosin lowers blood pressure and may cause dizziness or fainting, especially when you first start taking it, or when you start taking it again. Call your doctor if you have severe dizziness or feel like you might pass out.

Some things can cause your blood pressure to get too low. This includes vomiting, diarrhea, heavy sweating, heart disease, dialysis, a low-salt diet, or taking diuretics (water pills). Tell your doctor if you have a prolonged illness that causes diarrhea or vomiting.

Your blood pressure will need to be checked often. You will also need to be checked for prostate cancer before and during treatment with tamsulosin.

You may feel very dizzy when you first wake up. Be careful when standing or sitting up from a lying position.

If you stop taking tamsulosin for any reason, call your doctor before you start taking it again. You may need a dose adjustment.

Store at room temperature away from moisture and heat.

Read all patient information, medication guides, and instruction sheets provided to you. Ask your doctor or pharmacist if you have any questions.
Tamsulosin dosing information

Usual Adult Dose for Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia:

Initial Dose: 0.4 mg orally once a day
Maximum Dose: 0.8 mg orally once a day

Comments:
-If use is discontinued or interrupted for several days at either the 0.4 mg or 0.8 mg dose, treatment should be initiated again with the 0.4 mg once a day dose.

Use: Treatment of the signs and symptoms of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH)

Before taking this medicine

Proscar should never be taken by a woman or a child. Finasteride can be absorbed through the skin, and women or children should not be permitted to handle Proscar tablets.

To make sure you can safely take Proscar, tell your doctor if you have any of these other conditions:

liver disease, or abnormal liver enzyme tests;

prostate cancer;

a bladder muscle disorder;

stricture of your urethra;

if you are unable to urinate; or/p>

if you have ever had an allergic reaction to a similar medicine called dutasteride (Avodart).

Using Proscar may increase your risk of developing prostate cancer. Your doctor will perform tests to make sure you do not have other conditions that would prevent you from safely using finasteride.

Some medicines can interact with alfuzosin and should not be used at the same time. Your doctor may need to change your treatment plan if you use any of the following drugs:

imatinib;

isoniazid;

nefazodone;

an antibiotic - clarithromycin, telithromycin;

antifungal medicine - itraconazole, ketoconazole, posaconazole, voriconazole;

heart medication - nicardipine, quinidine;

medicines similar to alfuzosin - doxazosin, prazosin, silodosin, tamsulosin, or terazosin.

To make sure Uroxatral is safe for you, tell your doctor if you have:

low blood pressure, or a history of low blood pressure caused by taking medications;

kidney disease;

a personal or family history of long QT syndrome;

heart disease, angina (chest pain), high blood pressure;

coronary artery disease (hardened arteries);

a history of prostate cancer; or

a condition for which you take a nitrate medication (such as nitroglycerin).

Uroxatral can affect your pupils during cataract surgery. Tell your eye surgeon ahead of time that you are using this medicine.

Although Uroxatral is not for use in women, this medicine is not expected to harm an unborn baby or a nursing baby. If you are a woman and you take Uroxatral, tell your doctor if you are pregnant or breast-feeding.

Uroxatral is not approved for use by anyone younger than 18 years old.

Before using prazosin:

Some medical conditions may interact with prazosin. Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you have any medical conditions, especially if any of the following apply to you:

if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or are breast-feeding
if you are taking any prescription or nonprescription medicine, herbal preparation, or dietary supplement
if you have allergies to medicines, foods, or other substances
if you have chest pain, heart disease, narcolepsy, or kidney problems
if you will be having eye surgery

Some MEDICINES MAY INTERACT with prazosin. Tell your health care provider if you are taking any other medicines, especially any of the following:

Diuretics (eg, furosemide, hydrochlorothiazide) or verapamil because they may increase the risk of prazosin's side effects
Beta-blockers (eg, propranolol) or phosphodiesterase inhibitors (eg, sildenafil) because their actions and the risk of their side effects may be increased by prazosin

This may not be a complete list of all interactions that may occur. Ask your health care provider if prazosin may interact with other medicines that you take. Check with your health care provider before you start, stop, or change the dose of any medicine.
How to use prazosin:

Before taking this medicine

You should not take tadalafil if you are allergic to it, or:

if you take other medicines to treat pulmonary arterial hypertension, such as riociguat (Adempas).

Do not take tadalafil if you are also using a nitrate drug for chest pain or heart problems. This includes nitroglycerin, isosorbide dinitrate, and isosorbide mononitrate. Nitrates are also found in some recreational drugs such as amyl nitrate or nitrite ("poppers"). Taking tadalafil with a nitrate medicine can cause a sudden and serious decrease in blood pressure.

To make sure tadalafil is safe for you, tell your doctor if you have any of these other conditions:

heart disease or heart rhythm problems, coronary artery disease;

a recent heart attack (within the past 90 days);

a recent history (in the past 6 months) of a stroke, or congestive heart failure;

angina (chest pain), high or low blood pressure;

liver or kidney disease (or if you are on dialysis);

a blood cell disorder such as sickle cell anemia, multiple myeloma, or leukemia;

a bleeding disorder such as hemophilia;

a stomach ulcer;

retinitis pigmentosa (an inherited condition of the eye);

a physical deformity of the penis (such as Peyronie's disease); or

if you have been told you should not have sexual intercourse for health reasons.

Tadalafil can decrease blood flow to the optic nerve of the eye, causing sudden vision loss. This has occurred in a small number of people taking Viagra or other drugs similar to tadalafil. Most of these people also had certain pre-existing eye problems or risk factors for blood vessel disorders (such as heart disease, diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, coronary artery disease, smoking, or being over 50 years old). It is not clear whether tadalafil is the actual cause of vision loss.

This medicine is not expected to harm an unborn baby. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant.

How should I take tadalafil?

Tadalafil is usually taken only once per day. Follow all directions on your prescription label. Do not take this medicine in larger or smaller amounts or for longer than recommended.

Tadalafil can be taken with or without food.

Do not break or split a Cialis tablet. Swallow it whole.

For erectile dysfunction, take Cialis just before sexual activity but not more than once per day.

Cialis can help achieve an erection when sexual stimulation occurs. An erection will not occur just by taking a pill. Follow your doctor's instructions.

During sexual activity, if you become dizzy or nauseated, or have pain, numbness, or tingling in your chest, arms, neck, or jaw, stop and call your doctor right away. You could be having a serious side effect of tadalafil.

Do not take Cialis for erectile dysfunction if you are taking Adcirca for pulmonary arterial hypertension.

Store at room temperature away from moisture and heat.

See also: Dosage Information (in more detail)
What happens if I miss a dose?

If tadalafil is used as needed, you are not likely to be on a dosing schedule.

If you take tadalafil every day and you miss a dose, take the missed dose as soon as you remember. Skip the missed dose if it is almost time for your next scheduled dose. Do not take extra medicine to make up the missed dose.
