What the heck is up with this thing? I also suffered from it and during highschool i was always physiologically forced to have some object of interest even though i didn't get close to them or anything. Just tried to look cool in front of them or show what i liked (music, anime, etc) in the off chance they also liked it and approached me (believe it or not, one girl started talking to me because she heard my me playing anime songs on my phone)
Then i got to this particular university in this particular course with 90% men and the remaining 10% women are ugly as fuck and now suddenly i don't give a single fuck about any girl. Cure is worse than the illness though.
