as someone who lives with his 83 year old grandmother who is slowly dying after a life of eating fast food, drinking more diet pepsi than water, and literally never exercising:

of course it does. your organs shut down and since other parts of your body depend on your organs, they also shut down. imagine having your consciousness ripped out of your body and destroyed, that's what dying is

i was there when my grandpa died, he died of pneumonia a week after choking on his own vomit and getting it in his lungs while laying in bed. this only happened after a full decade of suffering from dementia and alzheimers disease.
