imo it's an acceptable reaction to reality as it exists today

Because killing yourself is seen as the ultimate "fuck you" to society. Instead of forcing yourself to work and contribute to society, you are setting your date of death and leaving everyone without your service.

Because you're the property of your respective government and they need you to work work work.

Suicide isn't illegal at all unless you live in the fucking middle east. Suicide has been decriminalized in the west for decades.
