Tsarist Russia was absolute trash though.

>not knowing it was a european superpower before the revolution/soviet union
>it was a powerful monarchy
>"lol no it was trash"
just like every monarchy they may have had drawbacks, but imperial/tsarist russia was far better than the soviet union.

>powerful monarchy
>losing a war to the tiny dicklet island of Japan
Pick one. And no, Tsarist Russia was far worse than the Soviet Union by any metric you wish to choose, and if you think otherwise you're delusional and probably drenched in Cold War propaganda.

at least people didn't have all their shit taken away and starve under tsar rule.

The majority of people (landless peasants) had nothing to begin with. Try again.
Let's see what we find with some quick googling:
>In the first two decades of the twentieth century, Russia and India had similar health profiles: The infant mortality rate in each country was about 250 per 1,000 live births.
[...] By 1973 the comparable figures for the two nations were: an infant mortality rate of 139 in India compared with 26 in the USSR.

Seems like you're wrong.

Before the Soviet Union, Russia was an ass-backwards shithole that was stuck hundreds of years behind everyone else. About one third of the entire population were serfs.

what is the problem with this ? Having serfs seems comfy

>Before the Soviet Union, Russia was an ass-backwards shithole that was stuck hundreds of years behind everyone else.
and it isn't even more backwards now? the soviet union had its own citizens starve to death by taking away what little they had, that's not backwards?
the soviet union only began to progress during the space race, and even then there was a lot of shifty shit going on for a country that many considered was revolutionized, free and strong with :DDDD gommunism
I'm glad it's gone
Go Lenin

serfdom was abolished in 1863, but yeah it was a shithole that failed to industrialize and make reforms until right around WWI. but when it did, there was quite a bit of progress and a lot of promise, which was mostly ruined by the civil war. for example the kulaks were a class of well off and independent farmers who arise from some economic reforms, but they were effectively eliminated under the soviet policy of forced collectivism. although the bolsheviks did modernize the country, you could argue that it would have been done anyway, and in a quicker and MUCH less costly fashion, if it had been done even by the imperial government.
