I would imagine that you have to reach such a low point that even the natural instinct to survive is overidden. Or maybe you still have some hope that you can make it out of your current situation? If you convince yourself that you're situation is completely unfixable then maybe you'll do it.

Sometimes I think about how prevalent these types of threads are on 4chan and i wonder if that makes us more prone to suicide than people who don't use this site. r9k, b, and adv have these "how to kill self" threads constantly. Just an unrelated thought
