In the Navy, currently training to be a ETN (Electronics Technician, Nuclear Field). This rate is the most autistic job in the Navy. I got fed up with the idea of going to college and burying myself in debt, and figured I was smart enough to learn one of the most intellectually challenging jobs in the military, which comes with great civilian job qualifications qualifications as well.Anyone else in the military?
>>
MMN here. ETN's are nerds.

Im a Field Artillery Guy(fag) in the Army
its pretty alright I guess, I got a 25k signing bonus, but my goal is to reclass to an Intel job of some sort eventually because I have really good ASVAB scores that are kinda wasted in this MOS

look at the air force or coast guard, high probability of US deployment.

coast guard is giving out signing bonuses like candy, and you can become an operations specialist and sit in a nice A/C building and just sit on a computer all day (basically 911 dispatch) coast guard only deploys overseas if you want to. few jobs require you to go on boats, and you get free housing and food bux as soon as you make e4 (after going to your job school)

If you like engineering/mechanics, there are those jobs available, but expect to go onnnaboat

chain of command is very small, so unlike navy, formality is not widespread

Coastie here, are there any good blue to green jobs? I tried contacting army recruiter and he said i would need to get out of coast guard and go into army as an E1 (e5 right now)

I really don't know too much about this.
During basic there was a former Navy E5 who came in as an E4, and during AIT there was a marine E5 who kept his E5 status, but at the same time I know a former marines E4s who came in as E1/2s

Sorry Im not much help here.
i dont know what your reasons are for doing that, but if you have to go back in as an E1 I wouldn't fucking do it unless you are dead set on a specific MOS

Thanks for the info,

I was looking at the SF units, because in the coast guard I just do supply jobs, I got to do law enforcement on a boat once, and I liked the room clearing courses at FLETC with simmunitions and stuff. I have a college degree, but in the coast guard its basically useless, becasue I don't want to go to be a fleet officer and OCS, and its not medical/intel/law so I can't get a direct commision. What do you know about army psyops and ranger schools, and what the criteria are for them?

I've been interested in psyops myself and have been doing some preliminary research online, I've only been in a year so Im not able to apply yet. Here's a flier I picked up on the subject, they have weekly briefings here
CID and CI guys pls no bully these are literally on a rack in the PX
And heres a link to a webpage reguarding it
https://goarmysof.com/psyop/
its a .com so im not sure who puts it up, but it seems pretty legit

Psyops is not entry level so I guess you'd have to come in as something else than drop a packet after 18 months unless they count your time in the coast guard as TIS, pick something you could stand just in case you can't get in or they become over-strength(doubt this will happen)

Ranger school I really dont know anything about

don't mean to breadjack but if I told the MEPs doctor I smoked pot five times when I tried to join the army, would it be okay saying 0 times, if I try to join with a different branch?

>>37763096
At a minimum. And doing just the minimum is a great way to be weeded out in selection.

HELL YEAH, THANKS DUDE

This looks really good, I qualify for all of the education stuff, but if I am understanding this, I would need the army fitness test and whatever the pulhes is , is that like an army specific job test that i would need to take (is this a waived category for those who enter prior to a certain date?)

In case you are interested in a change of scenery, here is what the coast guard is offering bonus and enlistment wise, they have a few programs for other branches to join too (WARNING THE COAST GUARD LOVES .txt)

>>
>>37763110

you are not supposed to lie on the forms anon, but if its already in your enlistment medical record from meps, it will stay there, but if it is not in your record from MEPS, there is a likelihood the other branch recruiter will not know.
>>
>>37763241
idk...I put no to all the bad things on the paperwork I filled out, but the doctor at meps tricked me and got me to admit to smoking 5 times...I'm guessing he wrote that down in his own personal paperwork....

pulhes is a physical health eval, where each slot is a different body part with a rating of 1 being flawless and 4 being the worst

if your in good health you would have a pulhes of 1 all the way across a "picket fence"

So for PsyOp req of 111221 means they allow you to have
>Distant visual acuity correctable to not worse than 20/40 and 20/70, or 20/30 and 20/100, or 20/20 and 20/ 400.
and
>Audiometer average level for each ear at 500, 1000, 2000 Hz, or not more than 30 dB, with no individual level greater than 35 dB at these frequencies, and level not more than 55 dB at 4000 Hz; or audiometer level 30 dB at 500 Hz, 25 dB at 1000 and 2000 Hz, and 35 dB at 4000 Hz in better ear. (Poorer ear may be deaf.)

Thanks for the coast guard info, they do have better locations than Army bases

>40k bonus for a cook with an associates degree in culinary arts or hotel management
I see that being a cook in the CG is as shit a job as the Army, lol the worst part is you work your ass off all day and all the soldiers hate you. Even if your an e6 the fucking privates in literally ANY other MOS will talk down to you

>mfw going to the Defac on weekends in civies and the E6 cook doesnt know my rank/name while I keep my hands in my pockets and say "potatoes...."

That makes sense,

and ohhhh yeaaaah, life is so hard at sector miami beach/ hawaii / great lakes

cooks get the hard life, unless you go to baker school and a few other chef schools (advanced training) Then get stationed as a white house or admirals chef

If you want action, and you happen to be into SF stuff, there's also the globally deployable:
>MSRT (counter terror)
>MSST (security forces)
>PSU (port security goes to Guantanamo and a few other places kuwait at one point)
>PATFORSWA optional deployment who work under the Navy 5th fleet.
>TACLET federal agents (counter narcotic)

Almost anybody is eligible for those since they are are all "law enforcement" oriented.

The prerequisites are:

>Fitness test (standard boarding team test)
>petty officer (e4+)
which isn't all that since you can go in as an e3

recomended either MK/BM/GM/ME

>fill the billet
>some require BO/BTM qualifier

BO is an extensive federal agent course for counter narcotic and law enforcement (arrest authority)

BTM is the several week BOlite

(LE but does not make arrests)

there are literally SF jobs open that people dont take because they want the cushy desk jobs

>go to miami and order toilet paper for boats - >go to miami and be on a tactical law enforcement team kicking down doors on a drug subs
>>
>>37759986
I'm an ETV.

Are you going to a sub?

Ex-ETN here. Dont re-enlist. You are more valuable outside the navy. 100k is shit in the long run. Plus the tax jew takes half of it anyways
>>
EMN. Hit EAOS on the 20th. Do your six and get out. Do your best not to go subs like I did. If you do though, worst case scenario is you live on an oil rig 6 months out the year making good cash
>>
Going to boot camp in 3 weeks. My contract is for HM.
>>
Civilian here. What's this shit I hear about people graduating and going to straight to officer and having authority over lower ranked people with more experience? I wouldn't be able to have any respect for someone like that, not unless they're around long enough to see they deserve it. It'd make more sense to me for them to promote up someone else who's already been there and knows how things work.
>>
>planning on joining the Chair Force or Army as an officer once I graduate college

Is this a good decision? My grades are good, I can pass all the PT requirements and have 0 health problems
