>Read the love poetry of the troubadours.
>Read that the concept of romantic love originated with the troubadours some 800-900 years ago.
>Romantic love came from the concept of chivalry, i.e. having a personal relationship with a noblewoman and kissing her ass.
>Men spend the next couple of hundreds of years idealizing women and falling in (romantic) love with them as they continue to this day.
>In the grand scheme of civilized history, romantic love is a relatively new concept, created and sustained by men.

But it was mostly restricted to Western Europe first. It wasn't only the Europeans started conquering the world after the 16th century that romantic love spread to other cultures. Even then, some cultures didn't begin practicing romantic love until the past 100-300 years or so.
Read C.S. Lewis' "The Four Loves," it's a good explanation about the different kinds of love from a Christian perspective. (I'm an atheist, but it's informative regardless of your religious beliefs.)

Only bullshit because you've grown up with the idea of romantic love all your life. Before modern history, marriages were viewed as economic arrangements, not the highest expression of love.
