Does anyone else "make" their own video games? And by make I mean writing down your ideas because you're too lazy to learn any skills and actually make it. I have 200 pages of scripting and technical information for an RPG about being a paladin.
>>
>>37745777
Why not get into ttrpg games? People make their own all the time and it's way simpler then actual video games
>>>/tg/
>>
Yeah, I haven't wrote them down onto paper, but I've come up with some video games that would appeal to me greatly. Actually making video games is a meme anyway, I don't want to do all that shit.
>>
>>37745813
I've tried playing Pathfinder and VtM but I don't have the attention span for it and get frustrated too easily
>>
>>37745825
Pathfinder is bad stay away from it
VtM requires having someone real good at it to teach you otherwise it's shit

All the fucking time. I'm constantly consciously and subconsciously thinking about my "games", fleshing out how they function, the gameplay, various features, etc.
>>
No because video games don't bring happiness, they only keep you from it.

Making video games is slightly better, but only if you actually have a chance of making a game that will come to reality and be sold and set you up for life and then you no longer need video games in your life to stop yourself from an heroing.

Haven't written anything down yet, I was toying with the idea of making a story out of it. I'm not a huge fan of programming. I was thinking a turn based cyberpunk game since it'd be the easiest thing to do and I like turnbase/cyberpunk and had a few ideas for the story and play from it.
>>
>>37745880
I wanted to make the game sort of conflicting with a little bit of what I wanted the play to focus out of, but I came up with the idea because of how I wanted the play to be. I'd probably just download a game engine and do something completely different depending on what kind of animation it supports and what I can do with it. It's just when I'm learning programming stuff I don't want to make games at all, I want to do functional real life applications.
>>
>>37745777
I've made some Unity stuff. Back in the day a horror game that was good enough that pewdie and markiplier and whoever was popular in 2012 would've played it, but I ran out of motivation to finish. The last 'game' was making a little level based around Happy from fairy tail, never posted it anywhere. Now Im just making 3D prop packs to post for free for the fun of it. Might expand on the fairy tail game one day as a fan game.

What would you recommend I try? 5e?

I'm involved with building an RO server. I come up with all the ideas for it. lol. It's sorta fun but I mostly do it for profit.
>>
>>37746074
Oh, and RO stands for Ragnarok Online. Excuse me for using the acronym.
>>
>>37745849
Tell me about some of your favorite ones anon
>>
>>37745777
That is actually pretty impressive.
Also, this is 2017. OCR and NLP exists. Code literally writes itself these days.

I really want to make a Souls-like indie game with a sci-fi setting some day but I have no knowledge of programming.
>>
>>37747691
Good writing is the hardest part. If you make a really good script, other people will make the game for/with you.
Look at Katawa Shoujo.
>>
Damnit, I'm smart enough and talented enough to do anything that I want. I just have to do it in secret so that no normies can stop me.

Alright here's one I've been thinking up recently,

It's a multiplayer game played with ~50 or so people (I'm still considering logistics etc., I have a few ideas but I cba going into the detail.) Basically it takes part of a big map where every player controls a city in a country.
They develop the city, its industries, agriculture, commerce etc., manage its resources and finances, exploit and search for resources, control various civilian and military units, etc. Basically, whoever controls the city has complete control over it.

Every city is a part of a greater country with its own internal politics. Every country would have its own type of government which would change how people in the same country interact politically. At any given time, there will be a head of gov't who is controlled by the city he belongs to, meaning the player that controls that city has control over the government.

The player who controls head of gov't can interact with other country's head of gov't diplomatically eg. by forming alliances, declaring war, etc. as well as have control over the country's policies. eg. economic and social policies, immigration, taxes, etc. Obv everyone would want to push their own policy decisions that would allow for them to push their city or the country as a whole in their preferred direction which would create natural infighting.

Different types of governments would work differently eg.
>dictatorship: one player rules indefinitely and has complete control over policies unless other players declare civil war and use their units to overthrow him
>monarchy: similar to dictatorship, but their ruler dies after a bit which lets a new random player rule etc.
>presidential republic: every election cycle cities can field a candidate, they all vote and the winner rules, he can pledge policy changes but his power is obviously limited and once his term ends a new election cycle begins
Cont autism in next post

I make my own vidya from time to time but i dont really work out the details beforehand. Making games takes a long time so i just change it up as i go.

Hellpoint is coming out, The Surge is already out. You're late.
>>
Than do it.
When i was in school, maybe 4th grade or so i had this friend who i talked all day everyday about vidya.
At one point we decide to try making one, i get bored easily but he got really into it.
Many years later i become a stoner loser while he sells his first indie game on steam, sells extremly well and he becomes a milionaire at 22.

Continuation
>single-party: similar to presidential, but the elected president/chairman's policies have to be in the confines of established party constitution, eg. if the party was established as having socialist economic policy, you can't change that unless revolution
>parliamentary democracy: the elected ruler doesn't have much power other than diplomacy, internally policies are decided by consensus between everyone in that country

Then there would be relations between the countries obviously. The first major diplomatic issue would be war and alliances. Countries could form non-aggression pacts to ensure no rogue player decides they go to war on a whim, and could form mutual defense pacts which would force them both into war if another was attacked so alliances and blocs would form.
Nations would also be able to go to war. If one nation declared war on another that would allow people to legally engage in combat eg. attack their units, bomb their shit, take their cities, force regime change etc. and likely annex entire other countries and form empires.

Then obviously the second diplomatic shenanigans would be economic. You will likely be trading with various cities from other countries for $$$ or resources for shit you want to do. People would be able to force embargoes and shit that would stop you from trading with cities from certain countries, or form trade deals etc. And obviously this would overlap with war because war is good/bad for business (depending on your situation.)

There would also be civil war within nations to force regime change from within. If people were unhappy with the current government and want to change it, (eg. you live in a monarchy but you would rather a republican socialist single-party state) enough people could form a coalition to enact a civil war which would essentially split the nation between pro-establishment and pro-revolution.

anyway that's pretty much all I've thought about for this one so far

I work as a writer for a video game studio. While I have my own ideas for video games, what I mostly end up doing is sharing ideas with my employer and hoping that he approves them for the games I'm working on.
>>
I've been 'planning' an open-world Soulslike FPS set in the Halo Universe for months now. Got gameplay, lore, even music thought out, but of course nothing will happen because I don't know how to make games and I don't work for a game studio. RIP.
>>
I wanted to make an Elliot Rodger game but I can't figure out rpg maker, I'm a tard
>>
>>37748180
How did you get a job as a writer in the games industry?
>>
You don't have to "learn programming". no one expects you to make a 3D render from scratch in assembly. There are scripting engines now where you might as well give it instructions in english. Roblox, game maker, rpg maker, unity 3d.
>>
I'd wanted to do sort of a little inn creator and simulator in a fantasy setting. Kind of like Harvest Moon to my mind in sort of style, but you basically set up your little inn and improve it overtime, while interacting with people who come and go. Full compliment of interactions, and can develop friendships and relationships with NPCs like hiring them to help, asking and doing favors, or marrying and having a family.

Add some random events too like a dragon attack, or goblins rent the place out for a wedding or something.
>>
>>37748465
You realize that you still need to be able to program in order to use a game engine, right?
>>
>>37748417
I posted on the Lemmasoft forums and happened to be picked up by a western visual novel studio. I suppose it was just blind luck.
>>
>>37748539
Yeah it's hyperbole. But like I said, might as well be english. a month or two, you are competent. don't let your dreams be memes
