I think our server is working on a few grinders right now. An iron farm wouldn't be a bad idea. I myself was never real good with the grinders and such.

I've tried that before. It was fun.

But when I hosted my own server we kind of roleplayed a capitalist dystopia with us human players being the CEO/dictators and our citizens the villagers being the "human chattle". I ran my little corner of the continent like North Korea. Huge border wall made of stone bricks, stone, and iron bars. Looks very bleak and modern with cannons and arrow dispenser machine guns up top and entrances that were essentially obsidian shelled holding rooms with 9 different ways of being executed in case "undesirables" slipped in an a lever that would let them into the People's Republic that was my nation. Villagers were locked in their proper workshops and not allowed to leave. Concentration camps for the "useless" villagers (those with shitty trade options or who don't trade). And a slave trade using rail cars where I exported skilled villagers to my friends for some meager resources.

It was kind of the reverse of China's state-capitalism/peasant communism. My friends and I pretty much shared everything other than land and a lot of the time the "trades" were only symbolic (i.e. I'd give my friend 12 stacks of iron to complete a project and only get a stack of charcoal, which I had more than I could ever use anyway, in return). We just treated our villagers like the soulless NPCs they are and would do experiments on them like sending them to the moon via a TNT cannon and railcar.

This is why I split up the continent my friends and I had on our server between us. There were no "rules" per say. I gave everyone admin powers and there were no mods on the server preventing anyone from building in whatever area. No protected places. I'd known them since elementry school and trust them all with something as petty as a video game server. We'd work on building projects together. But I liked that everyone had their own area where they could show off their own architectural style and taste.

If you have a communal build area and you don't like how others are flooding it with shitty looking cobble and plain wood plank buildings, you either say something and make it awkward (because it IS just a fucking video game) or you say nothing and get mildly irritated that they keep shitting up the neighborhood. But if you have a continent divided up into 4-6 "nations" you can work on some communal cities and villages AND you can have your own "capital" cities where you show off how you build and it can inspire your friends to make something similarly awesome, but with their own twist on it. It's way better to show your friend what you think is a cool city by example than trying to recommend in the nicest way possible that they stop shitting out huge boring looking shit box skyscrapers.

Because after all, even though it's made from the same two or three shitty materials, they put a lot of work into it an no one likes being told that their creation is bland as all hell.

Damn, man. I miss that server. I'm gonna get a new computer and use this one to run the server off of and hopefully they'll pop on every now and then, but they all went to real college and have actual lives to live now.

this was like 5 years ago at least and i haven't really played minecraft since then.

it was big enough that i drew actual blueprints on graph paper before the build if that gives you an idea, i made it a huge multi leveled cube-ish shape so people couldn't just dig in from the top.

like i said it was very large and elaborate, i kinda went over the top. pretty much the entire thing was made out of obsidian and i made heavy use of lava so at the very least most deaths meant losing a diamond pickaxe.

very dense, and the only actual hallways or rooms etc were traps, or bait to lure / funnel people into traps.

obviously it's possible to defeat a structure like that if you're tenacious enough but for most people it was too much trouble. nobody wants to spend 2 hours and burn up half a dozen diamond picks for questionable loot.

i actually kept most of my good stuff in a much smaller more hidden spot somewhere else entirely because accessing the main base frequently was a pain

these threads always make me want to boot up minecraft again until i remember that it's the same shit every time. It's fun discovering stuff and building a house but then you get to the end game and for what. A virtual creation that you have wasted hours of your life on. Think of all the things you could be doing with your time that would improve yourself instead of minecraft. I'm learning french instead of playing video games, something that is useful and has as noticeable and lasting impact on my life. I implore you all to try and go ninety days without video games or any vidya related media and try to improve yourselves as people.

When I used to play I created a really comfy little village with sort of interesting house designs. Random people that I'd talk to online would visit my world and I remember once after a while I visited one of their worlds and they had made a village just like mine with my house designs. It was kind of cool that someone liked my designs enough to copy them.
>>
I also remember spending so many hours mining down an entire mountain and then using the cobblestone to build a castle that had a lava filled glass floor. I also built a giant sandcastle with a water slide. I built a rainbow mine cart trail that shot across the sky. I colonized the nether. There was a summer a few years ago that all I remember doing is playing minecraft so I remember it as my minecraft summer.
