I just finished watching it but I don't understand the ending, the point of the angels, nerv, seele, gendou, rei, the lance of longinus, or pretty much anything else in the show.

It went from being sad depressed kid in a cool robot fighting monsters to some 2deep4u philosophical shit.

once upon a time there were these alien things called angels. they didn't like people very much so they did some shit and attacked earth or something. some old dudes saw this as an opportunity to do some trans-humanism shit under the guise of saving the world. eventually the MC did something and ascended? or something idk.
shit gets real weird the longer you watch it, like the story just devolves in random shit and no longer makes much sense
