Bored Anon home alone here. Some of my favorite films.

--------------------------------------
The Man From Earth (2007)
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0756683/
This is my easiest recommendation. A man reveals to his acquaintances that he's 20000 years old. He tells the history of humankind as it would be seen through the eyes of one man alone.. Written for the theater, it plays in only one room. Easy, light film, but not dumb. Like a really good Star Trek episode.
How it relates to robothood: Only slightly. The man's acquaintances reject him and a concept they do

--------------------------------------
Lost Highway (1997)
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0116922/
Tough, surreal film by David Lynch about a man who breaks. Projects internal and the subconsciousness into the external world. 2 actors play 1 character, and another actor plays 2 characters. The most psychologically taxing film I know. Permanently altered me when I was 18. Would not recommend unconditionally.

--------------------------------------
The Conversation (1974)
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0071360/

Explores the subjectivity of human perception, the uncertainty of human interaction and the despair and paranoia this can lead to. Not as dark as it sounds. Beautifully shot in flowing, moving shots. Great sound design. The only Coppola film I ever enjoyed.

How it relates to robothood: Normies are typically unaware of subjective reality.

--------------------------------------
A Serious Man (2009)
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A_Serious_Man

Jewish robot. Funny but not dumb. Dry humor.

--------------------------------------
Stalker (1979)
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stalker_(1979_film)

Stalker is the most difficult of these recommendations. I had to watch it twice to understand it. Not difficult because of the plot or the dialog. The plot is very simple. Difficult because it's abstract. Once you see the big picture, it is beautiful, and beyond what most Normies understand about human nature.

Taxi Driver isn't a feminist film. You might think that because you didn't understand it, so had to make up some bullshit theory to help you feel intelligent.

It is also worth noting that Scorcese is a huge cryto-catholic.

Yes, taxi driver was self-described as "feminist", but the hyper-masculine values of Travis are portrayed as out of his control, and not ultimately useless. The film is feminist because it critisises the attitudes of the ALL the male characters to women, eg. the pimp beating his wife and Scorsese himself in the taxi with Travis. It highlights these power struggles, and the grief they cause, but it doesn't exactly offer any kind of solution. He merely points them out. Travis' own moral convictions are presented as confused, but his intuition to "do the right thing" is certainly not.

Scorsese himself was also obsessed with the "brutalistic male" character archetype. It's something he played with quite a lot (probably an unconsious power fantasy).

Another thing I want to add is that in that interview you posted, I'm not entirely sure whether Scorsese actually disaproves of the social utility/goodness of the "goddess-whore complex". As far as I'm aware, he does delibrately include a blonde girl in all his films.

My own feelings here are that Scorsese has been through those very feelings (the ones about putting women on a pedestal,) and purposely tries to replicate them in his films. Whether he intends to show that certain characters feel that way or if he's wanting to inspire those feelings in his male viewers - I'm not so sure. But being the big Catholic he is I'm guessing he doesn believe in a certain fundamental human nature. He doesn't intend to chastise those feelings, rather adress them, assess the problems they may cause and make work of art that recognises them for what they are and how people deal with them. The film is not feminist in the sense that it propses we change the patricarchal nature of society. I don't buy that for one second.

It is not stupid for your typical robot to empathise with Travis.

>hyper masculine values must be useless in order for a film to be feminist
I'm not sure what you mean by this, since you conflate these values with doing the right thing but I don't think masculine people have a monopoly on that.

In fact, I think Scorcese shows how muddled Travis' thinking is, so wouldn't that implying the morals that stem from such thinking is equally muddled?

>no solutions
Good point, but I don't think that negates anything as often those problems aren't even recognised as real in the first place. Plenty of people still buy the happy hooker myth (see "porn stars love their work" meme), so simply displaying an alternative can be a solution to a problem outside of the film.

>unconcious
I don't really believe in Freudian psychology. Although, yeah, I suppose people like to play with cool characters in what is essentially a mental sandbox.

>>37714889
Solid fucking taste.

>>37715052
>disapproves
I think he shows it as fallacious, and that's enough.

I agree with you that Scorcese, like most men, probably went through the whore / madonna phase, and of course that was incorporated with Travis and of course it's okay to relate to that. However I feel that because he shows the paradigm as being (1) incorrect and (2) prone to encouraging outrageous behaviour, he condemns it. he can condemn an idea as wrong and sexist without saying that everyone who was subject to that mode of thinking is a horrible evil hitleral rapist. That still qualifies to me as a feminist film. I think you are misguided in believing that something needs to show it's political opposition as the Worst Ever in order to hold it's stance.
