yeah just go with SoC > CS (if you can get it running somewhat stable) > CoP. then there's some standalone mods (lost alpha and CoC) if you want more, but you might as well just mod the original games. plenty of flavours out there, just take your pick.

I have over 20 hours in and I haven't even been able to break into the science base or whatever. This game is fun but it's just so fucking difficult, even on the easiest difficulty

the only difficulty is Master. I read it also helps your own hitreg. battles become relatively quick and dangerous, usually the first to hit hard will win. fits the game's mood I'd say.

Don't play on easy. On lower difficulties a certain percentage of your shots won't hit. That goes for both enemies and you. On master all shots will hit.

I didn't really find it much more difficult than other PC shooters I've played like Far Cry 1/2 or MEdal of Honor.

The trick is to scavenge some good guns as soon as possible by "camping" in some neutral areas and help the NPCs that get attacked. Then you can pick up the guns left by enemies.

In the first game, it is a really good idea to do this in that hangar next to the junkyard that keeps getting attacked by bandits. You can get a good amount of MP5 ammo and then that first science lab level where the military attacks isn't such a suka.

>about a month after my new guys are killed by a chimera
>barely able to escape after dumping half my gear and tossing an emergency grenade
>a month after that I've collected enough artifacts to buy a decent set of armor and have decided to hunt mutants out of hatred and sell their parts to the eggheads in Yantar
