I do put spaces between paragraphs. You see a paragraph is a collection of contiguous sentences that usually but not necessarily follow a topic, usually indicated by the first sentence of that paragraph. On the internet it has been conventional to use an empty line to denote paragraph boundaries since HTML gets in the way of traditional indention.

This practice has been around for a long time. Reddit was founded in 2005. Paragraphs have been spaced apart from each other on the world wide web for at least 12 years before that. It has a lot to do with hypertext markup language, or HTML.

On word processors, one can simply press tab to indent a paragraph. I still did this on my college papers. But with HTML and boards based on the language, indention is harder. Usually all whitespace gets consolidated and you have to use special < p > and < br > tags to break lines. To make it easier on message boards, people started to use empty lines between paragraphs instead.

Now you may be wondering if the above collections of sentences are long enough to be paragraphs. I think they are. They contain about 3-5 sentences each and cover certain topics. What throws you off is that they all probably take up one line. That is due to this board's formatting. If you shrink your browser window to about 80 characters wide, they will look like paragraphs again. Do the same to a typical shitpost on here, and it will look like a standard wall of text.

You don't need to be a redditor to know this. I typed like this in 1998, 7 years before Reddit was founded.
