I think a massive problem is the fact that most games don't subvert expectations. We've experienced games from every genre for the past decade, we're supremely accustomed to the tropes. I wish so badly that developers would subvert expectations, but that requires actual heart and genuine creativity.

Like I mentioned earlier, Furi was the first game that impressed me in years. The bosses were created by the same artist that created Afro Samurai, so they came out incredibly unique and well designed. And the game actually trusts the player's skill, which is getting rare nowadays with all the Arkham-style shallow gameplay nowadays.

The only games that looked sort of interesting to me were Battlefront EA 2 and Metro Exodus. I'm definitely staying reserved about the former and Metro seems to be going the Stalker route which is bretty noice. I personally just stick with the more older games, CS 1.6 still has thousands playing it daily for example, and there's GO if I'm feeling competitive.

All I need is classic Doom. There's a seemingly endless stream of WADs to play through, so there's always something new to experience. If you ever find yourself getting bored of the vanilla experience, you can always slap on a gameplay-changing/enhancing mod, but in my opinion the vanilla experience is timeless. Additionally, you can get creative and easily make your own maps and mods. There's just surprisingly so much you can get out of a game from 1993.
