Yeah man it's shitty. I feel bad about it. This is one of the reasons I've been reading a lot of socialist literature lately. I understand my milieu enough to know that the reasons my blood-relatives and their friends are rich for reasons that are completely disconnected from virtue or hard work or anything else concrete. It's just luck. In a just world people like us shouldn't exist.
>>
My dad makes 3 mil a year. He didn't give us everything we wanted which was good. He and my mom grew up poor, so they buy a bunch of extravagant shit for themselves and us. Still, taught me to be humble about it. My sister is a trashy "daddy's little princess" and my brother is a preppy douche who flaunts my parents' money around acting like it's his. I try not to let people know I come from money because I don't want to be treated different. Also, I go to a super liberal school and I don't want to be attacked by the commies.

It really depends on what your parents did with it while you were growing up. There are two extremes on the spectrum: shower you with riches regardless of what you do OR they give you nothing.

I'm down at the almost nothing part of the spectrum and none of my friends knew I was from proper money until they actually came to my mansion. I got help at uni with book costs and some rent during my last year (I hadnt been able to save enough to live nearby and my folks were like "oh ffs lets just pay for it. Get B's otherwsie your out")

I've been poor (personally) working shit jobs to support myself since I turned 18 and a neet for 6 months after uni. Thankfully ive got a good paying job by working super hard without dads help as I hate nepotistic bullshit more than anything. Overall I think its good being on this part of the spectrum; im very down to earth and understanding. Plus I can get along with anyone from society - from the bums on the street to the landed elite.

Im not expecting any cash in hand from inheritance either. They will have it all tied up in trusts and my family assests will be treated more like a company than as personal wealth (which it should to help future generations of our family like we have been helped for school)
>>
I live in the 3rd world, my parent's net worth is probably around 5 million USD so we're pretty rich around here. I study History and PolSci in my country's most prestigious state university (<150 world rank), most students are leftists and hate me though, it's one of the reasons I have no friends and social circle, they hate me because I ace most tests without studying with them, and because I drive a nice car, and because I don't hang out with them because they hate me in first place.

>>37658851
Please don't become a self-hating champagne socialist, there's nothing more pathetic. Embrace your wealth and become a libertarian or something.

My dad made 500k last year. I think his usual pay is something like 200k, but it all a mystery.

It is a weird feeling, He keeps money so secret and he never does anything that is like conspicuous consumption. He is a hyper-responsible person.

Good feeling: no college debt
Bad feeling: the family line will only go downhill from here... ;_;
>>
the onus is on you pieces of shit to do good with your money. economy is destiny. you pay people to fry you chicken tenders, that's what your peers become, chicken tender chefs. you pay people to make beautiful works of art, that's what we become, painters and sculptors.

the wealthiest people pay big bucks for technical erudition or athletic prowess. those things are nice. in the renaissance big money paid for nice art. that's cool. what are you gonna use your money to demand from society.

use your money to support the arts. if you can't bring yourself to enjoy that, at least become a fanboy of something cool so you can support people that create culture, the kind of shit that makes life better for everyone.

the little city of venice dominated mediterranean trade for centuries and piled up enormous wealth, a little bit was spent on art but it is said the majority was squandered on vice, casinos, and women. the productive forces of generations culminating in gaudy spectacle and wantonness.

give a worthy person a job doing something that makes the world better, and damn the return on investment, if you idiots were earners anyhow you'd be investing and getting richer, not disappointing your earner father.

but seriously become a fine patron and put him to shame. the collection of wealth is equal to the disperment of wealth, if done virtuously.

Father is a PhD-level engineer earning about 190k. My mother was a mathematician and a programmer, if she were still alive, we'd be well over 250k. Alas, she passed away in 1985.

My stepmother does not work, and seems to make money disappear, and at one point my father had to borrow money from me (while I was making a decent but not impressive 50k USD a year).

It's not that my stepmother flashes money and splurges or anything. She's rather dowdy and never goes anywhere. It's a mystery where it goes, I suspect she's getting scammed since she's mentally a mess. Dad's not willing to even look at any of the finances though, not even a peek. Won't even check his credit report even though I walked him through the process in little baby-steps, he won't submit it.

Did I mention it as being net worth, autist?

250k/yr isn't rich, but you're so poor it obviously is in your mind. It's solid middle class money.

Genuinely rich people pay other people money like 250k/yr to maintain their wealth.

We are talking about parents being rich. It extends luxuries like a nice house, and a batch to party at with your friends and a car. But my parents give me no cash cause they dont was to be enablers for my drug problem. And i only get $170 a week studylink!

Had my wisdom teeth out the other day, they wouldve starting impacing on my other teeth if i left it a year or two.

Yeah
But they don't give me any of it. They payed for my 2 step siblings' state college in full and half of my brother's private college (which is survivor's benefit money because my dad was on disability when he died and my brother wasn't 18 yet)

They moved states without me. Now I live in my sister's garage and wagecuck to pay for community college. Not eligible for a subsidized student loan either because my parents are rich and I don't count as independent on my FAFSA until I'm 24.

All so they can retire early. Really makes me feel great when they can shit out 100 grand/year for my 2 step siblings but not 10k/year for my college. Or maybe 5k, I'd gladly cover the other half. Or shit maybe a couple hundred a month so I can afford to not live in a garage in the middle of the summer.

I'm sure I'll feel more accomplished when I finish, but fuck does it make me jealous seeing videos of my roastie step sister living the college dream surrounded by chads while I wake up in a puddle of sweat every morning and drive to school in my japanese shitbox that's been stolen by meth heads twice already.

I wanna fucking die
At least I have good health insurance
>>
>>37661708
>Not eligible for a subsidized student loan either because my parents are rich and I don't count as independent on my FAFSA until I'm 24.

In some cases, you can get declared independent earlier if you can demonstrate you are not being financially supported by your parents.

I hope they aren't declaring you as a dependent on their taxes, BTW. That would just be twisting the knife.
>>
>>37662670
They are. I told them that this year I am claiming myself. They huffed a bit but I don't care at this point.
>>
~104k a year here. That's all from my mom.

Going through this thread has been really interesting. Lately I've been wondering why so many of us on /r9k/ are actually Pretty Well Off. You would figure that the rich would have every advantage in life, so why are we stuck here? I'm starting to wonder if our class privilege is actually the cause of many of us becoming NEETS or "losers" otherwise.

Some things I've considered are, our social anxiety and inabilities to handle responsibility come from our parents never really pushing us to get jobs and practice social interactions because it was never really necessary for us, their kids, to support them.
Also, for some of you even wealthier folk, maybe you had maids to do household chores for you and your siblings or tutors to help you with work so you could slack off in school a little more.

There is also a sense of loneliness within the realm of the middle/upper middle class. It just comes with the territory. When one has to protect his or her wealth, it's difficult to date or make friends because it takes trust and some level of secrecy. Hard to have a sex life too. Many rich kinds spend a lot of their extra time dreaming up sick new fetishes, planning rendezvous with prostitutes to pretend they have normal sex lives, etc.

Any other theories/ things to add?
Also, where would I fall on the middle class scale, do you think?
>>
>>37658761
They have horrible finances
>lmao let's leave the ac on with all the lights on, but no we wont help anon pay off part of a car!
But they also live in one of thr shittiest areas of the country so our middle class life seems great in comparison. They could be really rich if they just didn't throw money away at everything.
>>
I am a self-made billionaire. My parents were immigrants. Never went to college also.

>>
>>37663311
Rich people just might not be very good at parenting. My dad was always traveling for his work when I was a kid so I was raised by my mother who quit her job to stay at home.
>>
>>37664751
being a NEET is not a sustainable lifestyle without a ton of disposable income
>>
>>37658761

>>
>>37665632

>>
>>37665581
My thinking is, if you're going to throw it away then at least get some enjoyment out of it. When it's shit like leaving water running or not fixing your cars until they completely break and need extensive repairs, then what's the point? What are they getting from this?
>>37664999
This is really the truth of it. Trips don't lie, many parents (maybe it's just boomers) expect you to have it all figured out even though you have more debt and less income than they did. Hell, my grandpa bought my dad a car and built him a house when he was my age and my grandpa worked as a bus driver on an air force base. Meanwhile my dad makes much more than him working in "education" and he doesn't give a damn. I don't mind being thrown under the bus, but let's just be open about it and not dance around it.
>>
>>37658761
I wish, damn near lost the home and had to wear hand me downs from a local church back in 2008. Only motivated me to make more money, now I'm close to having $100k in the bank. I chalk it up to work, dedication, and if you believe in it maybe a little dash of luck as well.
