I live in a major city in the Midwest and I've been living in poverty all my life. Bad neighborhoods smell like weed smoke and sound like gunshots. Your Windows get busted out if you leave anything in your car.

I grew up in a really terrible neighborhood. Full of drug dealing and gang violence and other nice things. The streets look like a bunch of dumpsters just exploded. I've seen dead bodies on the way to school.

My neighborhood is a primarily white neighborhood in southern europe. So. maybe it isn't color?

An old black couple lives across the street from us, and oddly enough after the garbage truck comes around they put ours and a few other neighbors garbage cans back.
