Might I ask how people who have actually met others from r9k have fared? I arranged to meet someone off of an old r9k Zeemaps thread once perhaps two years ago, and it was a poor experience.

I question how two (likely) depressed, reclusive individuals would manage to properly uphold conversation or engagement beyond idle endeavors like watching TV/a movie, or sexual involvements. Don't you find the concept of bringing the board intended for the mentally and emotionally unstable to real life bewildering and uncomfortable? How does it feel to arrange for and found a connection to someone based on your degree of social, mental, or emotional poverty?

In regards to myself, I would still likely to found a connection to someone (whether they were from r9k or not), but how do you get past the bewildering shame and discomfort of general contact and socialization? In my case, I attempted to express myself to for the other person, but received disinterested and mute responses. I was very bothered by what was said (and unsaid). This was quite some time ago, though.

The issue I am bringing is not solely about social interaction itself, but the foundation of a relationship (platonic or not) with another individual when your binding connection is being r9k browsers, and the associated social/mental/emotional stunting that is typically involved in the lives and beings of said browsers.

Many people, including myself, might have difficulty even coming up with ways to (safely) engage with and bond with other individuals. Most things I could think of would be done at a private residence, or difficult to arrange in public. I do not know how to form lasting bonds with individuals--and similarly, do not know how to bond with real people either. I realize the options are endless, but there must be some sense to it. At the first or second interaction, I assume most people aren't going to want to go to someone's house and cook, or go camping in local camping grounds/woods, for example.

Maybe I was just incompatible with the individual I met. I wonder if I should consider trying again, though I still do not know what kind of realistic (and actually enjoyable) active-engagement activities a new partner and I could participate in. What I did was go to a festival with my current S.O. An event gives you plenty to talk about and if the relationship-building doesn't go well, can still be enjoyable. If things do go well, you can also extend the date into a full-day ordeal.
If such events do not occur near you, going to the movies is similar enough and takes the pressure off of finding topics to discuss.

We went to a cherry blossom festival. Usually there are local events going down in your area. Anything public with more than one focus, where you and your friend can drift from one area/subject to another. Carnivals, expos, art and wine festivals, and large farmers markets come to mind.

The issue is you do this in actual PUBLIC settings(Cafes, bars, arcades, grocery store parking lots, designated safe spaces for craigslist meetups, etc) NOT "public" places like a parking lot desert, an alley somewhere in the city, a parking ramp, etc.
You want places with people around, in visual range, and within earshot then you follow the same rules your mother taught you about protecting your drinks.
