>read 1984
>pretty good book, enjoy it for a while
>come to point where to protagoniat falls in love and has a relationship
>lose interest immediately

Anyone else has this? It irritates the hell out of me when people have relationships
>>
The only good relationship a persona should have is with ethier satan or jesus. Mostly satan. Jesus is ok though.
>>
>>37554856
Did you finish the book?
>>
>>37554856
Just finish the damn book, it's hardly War and Peace and you'll be able to get the meme /lit/ credentials, which is the only reason why 95% of people read it to begin with anyway.
>>
pretty cliche but no it doesn't really bother me
>>
>>37555311
>>37555368
Nope, didnt finish it and dont know if i will. Honestly I started reading it mostly because of the "must read" meme
>>
>>37554856
>letting it bother you that much
Goddamn, drink bleach, bitter virgin.
>>
>>37554856
>tfw so detached from society that I find romantic relationships in media to be unrealistic and cannot empathize with them
I know that feel op. All I can think of when women actually accept romantic advances in movies and TV shows is that if it were me I would've got maced in the face for being so presumptuous.
>>
>>37555537
Then you're a fucking idiot.

Here, I'm going to spoil it for you since you're such a dipshit you obviously cannot even fathom the conclusion yourself.

She is a tool of the state to force people the party believe are committing thought crimes to actually commit a crime.

She doesn't love him. She's using him.

God, did you seriously think one of the books constantly mentioned as "must read" would contain a generic love story?
>>
>>37554856

It really is unbelievable. Winston is old, fat and ugly, and yet this beautiful woman decides to pick HIM for a fun fling.
>>
>>37555581

You are wrong, this is not in the book. She worked for the anti-sex league, but she genuinely wanted to rebel and genuinely wanted to love winston. Big Brother tortured her in the end and "changed" her just like they did to Winston because she was a heretic.
>>
>>37555581
Welp, cant say i didnt see this coming. I kinda suspected it when she said she'd done it with a bunch of other people. And i kinda understand why orwell described their relationship for so long, but it doesnt change the fact that its annoying to read that lovey dovey crap
>>
>>37555613
>Big Brother tortured her in the end and "changed" her just like they did to Winston because she was a heretic.
She went to a seperate room where nothing would have happened to her. He was already being watched early on. His parchment was moved after coming home from work one day. The police know.
>>
i only read manga and light novels and i literally can't read something if it doesn't have romance or at least shipping moments, i guess I'm in the stage where i still want to believe
>>
Same thing happened to me orgenen
>>
It's a bit overrated, it's to hyperbolic imo.
>>
You should read Kafka. He never finds love in his stories, it's usually a story about a protagonist who is up against unseen irrational enemies who only want to torture him. Although Kafka in real life was a pussy slayer.
>>
>>37554856
Same here i stopped reading at that part
>>
>>37555772
I actually wanted to read kafka for a quite a while but havent gotten around to it. Maybe i will thanks robro
>>
>>37555596
It's because they want to rebel, and fucking is an act of rebellion, you fucking moron
>>
>>37554856
Same i cant watch anything with love or relationships in it i have to turn it off and i lay in bed extremely depressed

Winston is a robot at heart.

Shoot, George Orwell was fucking shit with women.
>>
>>37554856
Actually I really liked the part where there was a relationship, because the rest of it was suffocating oppression, sexless, joyless prison for poor old Winston. Sometimes I wish a lady would pass me a note that said she loved me since it feels like a cold, SJW, sexless prison world nowadays.
>>
>>37554856
I sort of understand this. I don't completely lose interest in a book because the protag gets in a relationship, but I just can't even slightly relate. It's just such a common trope and I feel weird that it's something I will probably never experience. I really can't even pretend to relate to something that is so fundamental to most peoples' lives.

>the principal character gets on a relationship
>stop watching

I have not watched a movie or a serie till the end for a very long time.
>>
To be fair to the novel it was written before the sexual revolution and tinder and in an era where there were far more 20-35 year old females than males due to the war and they didn't have the ridiculous standards they have today.
>>
>>37555808
Read his short stories first to get a taste, then move to the Trial.
>>
>>37555811
She probably very well has those feelings of rebellion and lust inside her, everybody does- but the way it was written can seem like she's being used by the party- she manages to continually bump into Winston in strange places, like she has a way of knowing where he'll be alongside access to all the high class luxuries.

The coincidences can really be taken either way, I think that's a good part of what makes 1984 a good book, you really don't know and don't trust anyone.

>>37555869
>>37555874
What about in the Stranger where Meursault gets into a relationship wherein he feels nothing for the lady?
>>
>>37555869
Yep, seems like romance is like 99% of all entertainment like there's nothing else in life besides that, feels pretty bad knowing I will never experience it
>>
>>37555938
I guess I can't really blame people, given sex is basically the most important biological function after eating/drinking, and it would make sense for it to be hugely important to any society. It's just shitty that I'm never going to experience it. I'm not even that weird or anything. I have friends. I have female friends, even. I have a pretty healthy social life. But I've never had sex, never been in a relationship. The closest I've come is making out with very, very drunk chicks at parties. I wouldn't even know how to go about starting a relationship, or initiating sex. And yet it happens. People do it. People way fucking weirder than me do it. Almost all of my friends have done it, and many do it regularly. I've talked to people who don't even give a second thought to the assumption that pretty much everyone who isn't severely deformed is having sex at least once a month. Yet I've gone nearly 22 years without it. And I don't feel like I'm any closer to it happening. I don't get it.
>>
>>37556040
Im in the same boat as you (besides the making out part) I guess some things just arent meant for some people
>>
>>37555926
What i liked about L' Etranger (yep, i am french) is that the relationship part is just too small when you compare it to the book.

Unlike modern entertainements that give a relationship pages and pages / episodes and episodes, in this Camus book it doesn't take a central place. Just few paragraphs. There is no feely feely.

If Camus had focused on the relationship part i wouldn't have finished the book
>>
>>37554856
Yeah I hate that too.
Might as well watch a random kikewood movie If I want to see artificial relationships.
>>
lol this was the exact problem i had with mr robot. the protagonist was talking about how isolated and lonely he constantly felt which seemed super relatable, then he was having casual sex with his qt neighbor by the end of the first episode.
>>
>>37556083
It would have been weird to give the relationship more lines- the lack of emphasis on it is intentional to show how little he cares. If there were more that'd come into question.

Though, I still wonder about this- at the very end. Meursault shows a great deal of emotion at the absurdity of humanity and god as a whole, and goes onto hoping that there's a lot of people who hate him in the crowd that gathers to watch him get axed. I feel like my interpretation is full of holes but it just seems strange.
>>
>>37556040
I wish there was some pills to make you not care. I know some transgender/castration drugs do that but when I asked the doc he told me to talk to a psychologist. Like wtf, if I want to mutilate myself and be a woman its no prob, but if I want to supress my sex drive I need mental help
>>
>>37555581
1984 is overrated tbqh famalamadingdong
>>
>>37556132
Normal people cant comprehend a sexless life, talking to a friend about it once and he could not grasp me being a virgin at 27. He flat out called me a liar

Fuck even in 40 year old virgin hes only a virgin due to wacky happening s right before the act
>>
>>37556372
>tfw a robots life is worse than normies can even imagine for fictional characters
This is why it's so annoying that normies come here and offer their stupid advice. They're literally unable to comprehend that it's possible that a person can be a 25+ yo virgin through no fault of their own
>>
>>37554856
>Dropping such a good book because of some romance.
Have a hug least rare pepe
>>
Same shit happened with me. This is the reason I am not reading books anymore.
>>
>finish Crime and Punishment
>feel betrayed at the end
I mean, I knew the book was fiction, but I didn't know it was THAT fictitious. If Dostoevsky wants me to believe that Rasky can get a girl, he must be some sort of super normie. Fuck.
Moby Dick is more my style. An autist writing about whales. Plus spectacular prose.
>>
>>37556443
You are just lazy. Read non-fiction at least dumbshit.
>>
>>37555772
he sounds like me and im a paranoid schizophrenic. i think there is a TV show constantly watching me and everyone knows everything i say, so i was afraid they spit in my burrito when i went to a taqueria tonight because earlier i said my parents were racist against mexicans.
>>

cont.

I was afraid Jews were watching me tonight and shaming me for looking at porn so I haven't jacked off yet tonight.
>>

Not only that but...
>mom ask if im gay
>says she cant understand why im single
>girls should be falling head over heals for me

Also my grandparents think im a pedo because their church website said people my age who have not dated/married are likely pedos

I don't really mind relationships in my books, it just has to flow naturally. For instance I liked how it went in The Black Company because they actually felt like two autists trying to have a relationship but Old Mans War irritated me when he found out his wifes cloned body was still running around and a ~fragment of her soul~ was basically still kicking.
>>
>>37556633
>watching a movie with a female lead character
Top lal
>>
It's a common critique of 1984 that the love parts drag on for a little longer that it should. It's a chore to read for the second time how they plan to not getting seen together, but try to pull through.

>>37556372
Of course they can, most normies goes through dry spells of periods up to a year or longer, the millenial generation in particular.
A friend of mine, who every chick I meet, think is handsome, didnt fuck anyone for a period of 4 years after a breakup. Once you fall of the wagon, it takes a fair amount of effort to get back on.
Losing your virginity doesnt mean you kick up some magical door and you get easy pussy thrown your way all day.

>talking to a friend about it once and he could not grasp me being a virgin at 27. He flat out called me a liar
Some people are like that, but they tend to be a minority. Note that he probably fuck everything that spreads their legs for him, sex for him is probably more about confirmation and ego boost than the sex itself, I might be wrong, I dont know the guy.
>>
I'm fine with a romance angle if it makes sense. If it's just shoehorned in for no reason it can fuck right off
>>
>>37554856
This is why I just play Doom. You just have sex with walls in that game. I can have sex with walls.
