Primarily because it's easy to feel superior to them (protection of the ego and all). The whole thing with cuckolding is that it's humiliating, submissive and pathetic, so they associate that behavior with other behaviors, like the beta-male thing. The feeling of disgust or contempt implies superiority, and feeling superior is what the ego is all about.
