I think there's points to be made about immigrants needing to respect the values of the liberal pluralistic democracies they immigrate to, and the problem that creates if you're allowing Islamists into your country, but that point was made plenty clear to the terrorists in question as I recall. And there's no reason to think that it's an ethnic divide in any way; living in America, I know from experience that immigrants can and do become fantastic citizens, sometimes all the better for being converts instead of natural-born. I'd also say that there's plenty of natural-born citizens here in the USA that don't really respect the values of liberal pluralistic democracies either.

In the end it's the conflict over values that creates problems, not conflicts over ethnicity. It's not who we are, but what we believe that really matters.
