Yeah, you can still find any sort of alternative kids in any given population sample. 70s punk, 90s pop-punk, emo, goth, scene, metalhead, etc.

It's just that now it's like 1/10th of what their population was over a decade ago.

Back in the naughts it was cool to be alternative because alternative cultures were mainstream. People still watched MTV for the music and the culture around music. That all died at the ass-end of the naughts, myspace was its final resting place.

Those cultures are still around, but like I said it's just like a handful of kids in one high school in each city just wandering around in a post-apocalyptic cultural wasteland. Not like 10-20 years ago when there was whole flocks of them.

So am I. Our culture isn't all that different from America, minus the guns and religion. We listen to American music and watch American movies & TV shows and play American video games all the same.

The last big boom of alternative culture was really 10 years ago. In school there was flocks of "scene" kids that were just the logical conclusion of third-wave emo, and there were mallgoths and metalheads and nu-metalheads and all sorts of other characters.

Our local club scene reflected that as well. There were loads of little niche clubs that had like Industrial Goth Wednesdays and Sad Indie Rock Sundays, there was a lot more action in the local punk scene including small punk clubs, etc.

Theses days all those are literally all gone and all that's left is the one big alternative club that's been around since the 80s and is now an oasis for everyone who hung out at those other ones.
