If the guy is at least somewhat competent the kid will likely turn out a lot better than if raised by a single mother.

The ones that try are actually pretty cool. The ones that don't are fucked.

The majority of single mums will at the very least provide the bare minimum for their child, though most of them will be terrible parents overall. That's one of the reasons why women have such an edge in custody battles since all the court really cares about is that the child isn't going to be neglected into starvation so they choose the mediocre safe better rather than the bet with slightly more risk but a much greater payoff.
