I tried getting into translation (English -> Spanish) via Upwork but I am so fucking demotivated, thinking that once I get enough money to withdraw I'll have to do it to a bank account, and once it gets to an amount I could actually live off I would probably get inspected and would have to deal with insufferable amounts of judiciary bullshit and maybe even be fined or get a small prison term.

In my country you have to literally PAY to be allowed to be self employed, and it's not a small amount precisely. Not to mention the insufferable amount of red tape involved. If you want to have your own business you will have to be begging for months to the administration to allow you.

This is one of the main reasons there's so much unemployment in some of the shittiest western countries. The government's role is to make things as difficult as possible so the number of employers in the job market is artificially limited. It isn't that people won't find a job or become self employed, it's that they're not allowed to do so.

When you first join they give you the ugliest jobs no one else wants, if you soldier on through 80 audio minutes of that you get to the general pool, but even that can be shitty until you've logged in 1,200 audio minutes. At that point you get first pick of all new projects and you can basically make money every minute you can bear to type.
